About Exercises
Exercises are the building blocks of training on Kanvie.
You will encounter them while:
- Logging activity in your diary
- Creating your own workout, or viewing workouts shared by others.
Each exercise gives you clear guidance, accurate calorie estimates, and practical context to help you train smarter.
What Is an Exercise?
An exercise on Kanvie represents a specific movement, for example:
- Running
- Squats
- Bench Press
Customizing an Exercise
When you add an exercise to your diary or include it as a step in a workout, you can configure:
1. Time-Based Amounts
If the exercise is duration-based, you can set:
- Duration (seconds, minutes, hours)
- (Optional) Any speed, intensity or effort settings available for the exercise
Kanvie uses the duration alongside your personal metrics to estimate calories burned.
2. Set-Based Amounts
f the exercise uses sets and repetitions, you can add up to 5 sets, each with:
- Number of repetitions
- Amount of weight used in the set (kg/lb)
- This includes added weight for exercises like push-ups, pull-ups, or dips. Simply enter how much external weight you used.
- (Optional) Any intensity or effort settings available for the exercise
As you adjust repetitions or weight, Muscle Points update in real time so you can see exactly how much load each set contributes. This makes it easy to understand the impact of your effort before saving the exercise.

What You See on the Exercise Detail Page
1. Calories Burned
Kanvie estimates calories burned based on:
- The exercise selected
- The repetitions / sets or duration you choose
- The intensity or speed you choose
- Your biometric data
Learn more about the way Kanvie calculates your burned calories.
2. Muscles Worked
While viewing or logging a strength training exercise, you can see exactly which muscles are involved and how much load they receive.
Instead of only listing primary and secondary muscles, Kanvie shows:
- Muscle Points per muscle group (e.g. Glutes, Hamstrings)
- Muscle Points per individual muscle, based on your current input
As you enter or adjust weight, repetitions, or sets, this breakdown updates live, letting you immediately see how each change affects the muscle load.
- Learn more about tracking your muscle load using muscle points
- Learn more about how we calculate muscle points
Every exercise shows you the primary and secondary muscle groups used. For example:
Primary: Glutes
Secondary: Hamstrings, Lower Back
This helps you build balanced workouts, avoid training fatigue and understand how each movement affects your body. Your muscle breakdown also updates live as you enter your sets and weight, so you can see how each adjustment affects the training load at a glance.
3. Your Exercise History
By tapping History, you can see a log of the last times you've added this exercise to your diary, including the duration or sets and the effort you selected. By tapping an entry, you can either log it again as is, or paste it's amount into the current context window.
4. Popular Workouts That Use This Exercise
If you want inspiration or alternatives, you can tap Workouts to see community-created workouts that include that specific exercise.
