Adjusting Your Daily Calorie Budget & Goal
Your daily calorie budget helps you manage your nutrition and progress toward your goals. Kanvie calculates a baseline budget based on your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and daily activity. We have a detailed article on how BMR is calculated, linked here if you want to dive deeper.
Once your baseline is set, you can adjust your daily target to fit your personal goals.
How To Edit Your Daily Calorie Budget / Goal
- Go to the Me 👤 tab in the bottom navigation bar of your Kanvie app
- Select Daily calorie budget
- Pick one of three options:
- Lose Weight
- Subtract calories from your baseline to create a deficit.
- Use the slider to choose how aggressive you want your weight loss to be.
- Maintain Weight
- Keep your daily budget aligned with your baseline needs.
- No adjustments are applied. This is ideal if you just want to track calories without changing weight.
- Gain Weight
- Add calories to your baseline to create a surplus.
- Use the slider to select how aggressively you want to gain weight.
- Lose Weight
- Tap Save ☑️
How Your Budget Is Calculated
Your daily budget is based on:
- Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR): The calories your body burns at rest. Learn more about it here.
- Calories burned through activity: Either logged manually in the Kanvie app or synced automatically from Apple Health or Health Connect. Learn more about how we calculate burned calories.
Then, depending on your goal:
- Lose Weight: The Kanvie app subtracts the amount you choose with the slider from your total
- Maintain Weight: No subtraction or addition. Your budget equals BMR + burned calories
- Gain Weight: The Kanvie app adds the amount you choose with the slider to your total
How This Affects Your Macro Nutrients
Since your recommendations for macro nutrient intakes on Kanvie are based on your calorie budget, changing it will also affect the recommended intake amounts for proteins, carbohydrates and fats. You can learn more about adjusting your macro nutrient intake amounts here.
