Creating a Recipe

article-header-img

Recipes on Kanvie are built from components (ingredients and products) and steps that guide users through preparation. They also contain a title, description, and preview media (like a thumbnail image or video).

Make sure to follow the Kanvie Community Guidelines when posting public recipes.

What a Recipe Consists Of

1. A list of components

Your components can be a mix of:

  • Ingredients (raw items, like apples, oats, chicken breast)
  • Products (store-bought items with nutrition labels)

Each component includes a specific amount, which Kanvie uses to calculate total nutrition.

2. Servings

You specify how many servings the recipe yields based on the exact amounts in your component list.

Users viewing the recipe can adjust servings later.

3. Steps

A recipe can include one or multiple steps. Each step may include:

  • A description (required if not using a template)
  • A template (required if not writing a custom description)
  • An image (optional)

3.1 What Are Templates?

Recipe step templates let you add structured cooking steps without writing everything manually.

Each template (like Bake, Cut, Mix, Grill, Sous-Vide, etc.) comes with built-in fields such as duration, temperature, heat setting, cut style, and more depending on the technique.

Templates ensure steps display consistently across Kanvie and make recipe creation much faster.
