Avoiding Ingredients & Attributes
Kanvie helps you stay aware of ingredients or food characteristics you want to avoid, whether due to allergies, dietary preferences, intolerances, or personal choices. You can avoid specific ingredients or broader attributes (like gluten, lactose, or alcohol), and Kanvie will alert you whenever you encounter items that match your avoidance settings.
Avoiding Specific Ingredients
If there are particular ingredients you don't want to include in your diet:
- Open the ingredient you'd like to avoid
- Tap the ⋯ (More) button in the top-right corner
- Select Avoid this ingredient
Managing Avoided Ingredients
To view and manage your full list of avoided ingredients:
- Go to the Me 👤 tab in the bottom navigation bar of your Kanvie app
- Select Avoided ingredients
After Avoiding an Ingredient
- When viewing an ingredient you avoid, you'll see a warning at the top of the screen
- Products containing that ingredient will also display a warning at the top of the screen, which you can tap to see all violations
- Recipes listing any matching products or ingredients will show a similar warning
This is ideal when you want to avoid one specific ingredient rather than a whole category.
Avoiding Attributes
If you want to avoid everything related to a broader property, for example, all gluten-containing foods or anything with alcohol, you can avoid attributes directly.
What Are Attributes?
Each ingredient in Kanvie may have one or more attributes, such as:
- Gluten
- Eggs
- Soy
- Milk
- Peanuts / Tree nuts
- Sesame
- Sulphites
- Legumes
- Fish / Crustaceans / Molluscs
- Meat, poultry, animal origin
- Alcohol
- Yeast
- …and others
Products and recipes inherit these attributes from their ingredients, and products may also include trace elements that list potential attribute occurrences.
Managing Avoided Attributes
- Go to the Me 👤 tab in the bottom navigation bar of your Kanvie app
- Select Avoided attributes
- Toggle any attributes you want to avoid
- Save your changes
After Avoiding an Attribute
- Ingredients with that attribute will show a warning
- Products containing such ingredients or trace elements will show a warning
- Recipes including any matching ingredient or product will show a warning
Good to Know
- You can avoid both specific ingredients and attributes at the same time
- Avoidance settings apply across the entire Kanvie app, including recipes, products, and ingredient views
- Avoidance settings are for your personal use only. These preferences are not visible to other users
